在灯光下显紫色萤光,微溶于稀酸,几乎不溶于水。金红石型晶格,在电光下加热呈现弱紫色荧光,其晶体具有良好的偏振作用,特别适于紫外线和红外谱线。极微溶于水(18℃,87mg/L),微溶于稀酸(特别是硝酸)。致死量(豚鼠,经口)1.0g/kg。有刺激性。用来制造陶器、玻璃、冶炼镁金属的助溶剂、光学仪器中镜头及滤光器的涂层。用于阴极射线屏的荧光材料、光学透镜的反折射剂及焊接剂,以及钛颜料的涂着剂。
