Synthesis and luminescence properties of color-tunable BaLaGa3O7: Bi3+,Sm3+ phosphors

ABSTRACT

We prepared BaLaGa 3 O 7 : Bi 3+ ,Sm 3+ phosphors via solid state reactions and investigated their crystallinity, lattice occupancy, and photoluminescence performance. The phase and crystal structure, morphology and size, as well as element composition of phosphor were investigated via a series of measurements. The photoluminescence and Bi 3+ → Sm 3+ energy transfers were investigated in detail. It is proved that Bi 3+ → Sm 3+ energy transfer occurs in Bi 3+ /Sm 3+ codoped BaLaGa 3 O 7 phosphors and it is induced by dipole–dipole interaction. By calculating the decay lifetime, the efficiency of Bi 3+ → Sm 3+ energy transfer is evaluated. The CIE coordinates of the prepared show obvious dependence on Sm 3+ concentration and temperature.
