ABSTRACT

The research on hot electron cooling in photocatalysis has been neglected. Here, taking polymeric carbon nitride as an example, a potassium/carbon (K/C) co-doping strategy is proposed to slow down hot electron cooling. The K/C co-doping reduces the specific arrangement and overlap of electronic band structures, and decreases the degeneracy of conduction band energy levels, thus exciting phonon bottleneck effect to effectively suppress the relaxation of hot electrons by reducing the interaction between hot electrons and phonons. Our work benefits to improve the efficiency of photocatalytic energy conversion.
