Recyclable Prussian blue/Clinoptilolite composite cascade activating persulfate for cleaning organics in water
As society develops, various waste are discharged in increasingly large quantities, so efficient wastewater treatment methods are urgently needed. Herein, Prussian blue/clinoptilolite/persulfate (PB/Cpt/PS) are utilized in a multi-functional wastewater treatment system, which removes refractory organics through the synergistic effect of adsorption and cascaded activated advanced oxidation processes. Under light irradiation, PB produced heat to activate PS to produce free radicals and decompose organics; in dark conditions, Fe 2+ from PB slowly activated the PS and consistently decomposed organics. Further, the porous and multilayered PB/Cpt performed absorbance effectively, which not only improves the photo-degradability of the system by closing in the organics and free radicals but also alleviates the side effect of PS by collecting remaining SO 4 2- . The results confirmed that PB/Cpt/PS could remove organics efficiently, regardless of the light source, pH disturbance, or cycle-index. Meanwhile we conducted quenching experiments to identify reactive species and proposed probable degradation mechanism according above results.
