In-situ deposition of silver particles onto melamine sponge with PVA assistance and its effective catalytic reduction for organic pollutants
Organic contaminant has detrimental influence on aquatic life and humankind through water circulation. In this work, Ag coated melamine sponge (Ag-P@MS) has been successfully prepared by facile, one-step and in-situ deposition method with the assistance of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Methylene blue and congo red as the representative of dyes and 4-nitrophenol as the typical of nitrophenol contaminants are employed to evaluate the catalytic performance of the as-prepared Ag-P@MS. The as-prepared MS composite (Ag-P@MS(6.5)) in the nearly neutral condition demonstrates better catalytic property than that of Ag-P@MS(10.5), and the apparent rate constants for Ag-P@MS(6.5) degradation of MB, CR and 4-NP are 0.01356 s −1 , 0.00886 s −1 and 0.00465 s −1 , respectively. The present work presents a novel approach for the preparation of Ag carrying monolith catalysts based melamine sponge and the potential practical application prospect due to their excellent catalytic performance for organic pollutant.
