Feasibility of Using the Coil-Shaped Conductive Polymer Composite to Measure Thickness
To realize the thickness measurement by using the intrinsic flexible sensor, the conductive polymer composite is fabricated into a coil-shaped structure. The experimental results show that the effective value for the induced electromotive force (induced emf) of the composite coil decreases with the increase in thickness. The experimental results show that the sensitivity of the composite coil is 40.177 mV/mm, which is higher than that using a traditional metal coil with the same structure. With the distance of the composite coil or the metal sample position changing, the induced emf value of the composite coil also changes in response. When the sensitive element bends and deforms, the sensitivity of the thickness measurement will be lower than that of the measurement in the planar state under the same experimental conditions. However, all those changes in distance or curvature do not affect the relationship between the induced emf and the thickness. The aforementioned results have preliminarily verified the feasibility of using the coil-shaped composite to measure the thickness.
