ABSTRACT

For treating tympanic membrane (TM) perforation, a scaffold is helpful for TM repair in myringoplasty. In this work, the green-crosslinked method respectively based on four kinds of polybasic organic acids (maleic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, and malic acid) has been used to crosslink the composite nanofibrous membranes of chitosan (CS) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) for preparing the TM scaffold. The crosslinked membranes exhibit nanofibrous morphology, good physical properties, and excellent biocompatibility to promote TM cell proliferation. To summarize, the polybasic organic acids are effective and nontoxic crosslinked agents to prepare composite CS/PVA nanofiber membranes for TM scaffold.
