ABSTRACT

In this work, the multilayer film with polycaprolactone as the outer layers and the curcumin-loaded gelatin film as the inner layer were fabricated by sequential solution blow spinning (SBS). The hydrophobic outer layers improved the water contact resistance and protected the inner layer from being dissolved by water. The interactions of hydrogen bonds between the outer and inner layers enhanced the thermal stability. The hydrophobicity and mechanical properties of the gelatin film were also improved by the sandwich structure. The multilayer film exhibited good slow-release ability, releasing curcumin continuously for 312 h. Meanwhile, the multilayer film was as effective as the single-layer gelatin loaded with curcumin against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus . The results of this study indicate that multilayer nanofilm fabricated by SBS have promising applications for the encapsulation and controlled release of antibacterial substances.
