Energy transfer, colour tuneable emissions and LED application of solid solution phosphors K2Y1-x-yTbxEuyZr(PO4)3

ABSTRACT

Development of multi-colour emitting phosphors for applications in LED is always a hot topic in rencent years. Herein, we prepared solid solutions K 2 Y 1- x - y Tb x Eu y Zr(PO 4 ) 3 and studied their luminescent properties. Both Tb 3+ and Eu 3+ emission peaks can be generated by using characteristic exciting wavelength of Tb 3+ (378 nm) due to the Tb 3+ →Eu 3+ energy transfer. By simply changing the relative proportions of Tb 3+ /Eu 3+ , the emitting color of phosphors K 2 Tb 1- y Eu y Zr(PO 4 ) 3 changes from green ( y  = 0), through yellow ( y  = 0.005) to red ( y  = 0.08). Thermostability study showed that at 150 °C, the integral intensity is 57% of that at 25 °C, suggesting a good thermostability. Finally, we fabricated three LED lamps by using a 365 nm chip with y  = 0, 0.005, 0.08 phosphors, and green, yellow and red light can be observed.
