ABSTRACT

The multiple advantages of flake MoS 2 are of great significance for improving the fretting wear resistance of bonded solid lubricant coating. Herein, the coating was constructed with liquid-phase exfoliated flake MoS 2 as lubricating filler and epoxy resin as binder. The tangential fretting characteristics for the contact of AISI 52,100 steel ball against the as-prepared coating on the AISI 1045 steel were investigated under three displacement amplitude. Results show that the average friction coefficient and wear rate of the coating with flake MoS 2 maximumly reduce by 45.5% and 89.8% than those with bulk MoS 2 . Moreover, the fretting regime is regulated by the coatings with different composition and performance. Such excellent anti-fretting features depend on: (a) the intrinsic shearing properties of flake MoS 2 ; (b) the repairing effect on the worn area; (c) the formation of uniform transfer film.
