ABSTRACT

Bioglass shows excellent osteogenic activity and biosafety when used for repairing bone defects. However, as an implant, bioglass lacks sufficient antibacterial ability to reduce the risk of postoperative infection. In addition, conventional bioglass does not promote vessel or nerve fiber regeneration in the process of bone regeneration and remodeling. In this study, porous cobalt-doped borate bioglass using lotus sprout as a template was prepared. The material had a broad-spectrum antibacterial capacity, enabling it to reduce the incidence of implant-related infections. More importantly, the growth of blood vessels and nerves could be accelerated through this appreciate porous structured implant. At the same time, the incorporation of cobalt created a hypoxic environment that further promoted angiogenesis.
