ABSTRACT

The leaked radioactive cesium is urgent to be eliminated due to the endangerment of human health and ecosystems. Herein, the layer-by-layer assembled ferrocyanide composite fibers were fabricated based on the coordination of phytic acid (PA) and Zn 2+ . The obtained Cs-adsorptive fibers (ZnFC/PA/PSF) showed the top-class adsorption capacity (524.67 mg/g) and fast kinetics (25 min). In addition, it exhibited excellent selectively towards Cs + with the presence of various co-existing ions, which was further proved in geothermal water (distribution coefficient, K d  = 2.5 × 10 4 mL/g). Moreover, ZnFC/PA/PSF displayed favorable pH stability with negligible dissolution of Zn and Fe, and satisfied reusability after ten adsorption cycles. This work demonstrates that the ZnFC/PA/PSF composite fibers are eco-friendly and cost-effective adsorbent for the treatment of the Cs-contaminated water.
