ABSTRACT

Surfactants attract attentions in aluminum-air batteries (AABs) due to its profound effects for anti-corrosion. This research proposes a patching reinforcement strategy using surfactants of dodecyl-β-D-maltoside (βD) and dodecyldimethyl benzyl ammonium bromide (DDBAB) to enhance the action of 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) as electrolyte additive . Hybrid surfactants consolidate the complexation of 8-HQ with aluminum , forming a dense protective film on the electrode surface . The results show that the assembled AABs has the highest capacity density of 2517 mAh·g −1 under optimizing condition, and the anode utilization rate reaches 84.5%. The corrosion protection efficiency can reach 87.2% on Al-5052 electrode in 4 M NaOH solution. This strategy provides a new method for using hybrid additives for AABs and aims to promote their commercial application.
